Hi all, were planning to go to the NASCAR Brickyard 400 in late July and drive up to Niagara. Can anyone suggest where we should fly to at the start of our holiday ?
I%26#39;m thinking Chicago would be a good start then down to Indianapolis then Niagara then back to Chicago.
Anyone able to tell me if that%26#39;s a good option? I%26#39;ve no idea where to stay so suggestions would be good.
Just myself and my wife will be travelling and we will be in the US for two weeks.
Thanks in advance.
Nick
Indianapolis then Niagara
Why not fly directly to Indianapolis? I looked at Mapquest, and Chicago to Niagra Falls in about a 9 hour drive. Indy to Niagra Falls is a just a little shorter. If you want to see Chicago, or maybe avoid connecting flights, I can see why you would fly into Chicago. But if you only want to attend the Brickyard and then go to Niagra Falls, flying into Chicago would just make things more difficult. You would add the time to drive from Chicago to Indy to your trip. Also, the traffic in Chicago can be very bad. Indianapolis is a much smaller aiport in a much smaller town, and it is easier to navigate. Traffic is always heavy on race days around the track, but the rest of the time it%26#39;s relatively light.
What about flying into Indianapolis and departing from an airport closer to Niagra Falls, maybe Toronto?
Indianapolis then Niagara
I like the idea of flying into Indy, driving to Niagara, then flying out of Toronto. Chicago is nice, but I agree that traffic is bad %26amp; O';Hare is on the far northwest side %26amp; so about as far from Indy as it can be. Although all I%26#39;ve experienced of Toronto is their airport %26amp; surrounding hotels, it%26#39;s a world class city.
A couple of tips: If you can fly to Indy without going through O%26#39;Hare, do it. Their flights frequently arrive %26amp; leave on delays %26amp; you cannot always rely on the terminal monitors for info. If you must go through O%26#39;Hare make sure you have a least an hour layover before your next flight. (Also keep contact info for your airline, your confirmation number, %26amp; a charged cell phone that will work in the states with you. If your flight gets canceled you%26#39;re better off calling %26amp; re booking rather that going through long customer service lines. Of course this depends on the airline, but I had a bad experience with United %26amp; these tips made a huge difference.) Book your rooms for the Brickyard weekend now. The hotels will book fast. Indy.org has lots of useful information on accommodations. Staying downtown will keep you close to restaurants %26amp; museums. Hope this all helps.
Hi, thanks MissyMeg and Shutterbug for the info. Unfortunately my vacation dates have been changed by my employer so now Im looking at Daytona in July in time for the Coke Zero 400.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply
