My family and I will be attending the DCI Championship in August at the Lucas Oil Stadium
500 S. Capital Ave, Indeanapolis.
We would like to stay in a Marriott brand (courtyard etc) on points.
Can someone suggest a safe, convenient Marriott brand hotel for our August weekend? We have never been to Indeanapolis before.
Thank you so much.
Best Marriott to stay in Indianapolis
Didn%26#39;t mean to spell Indianapolis incorrectly. Sorry for the typo
Best Marriott to stay in Indianapolis
There is a brand new Marriott adjacent to the Convention Center, about 3 blocks north of Lucas Stadium - I%26#39;ve heard nothing be excellent feedback about this hotel and that%26#39;s where I%26#39;d stay - although there is at least one Courtyard by Marriott in easy walking distance.
The DCI is a great event in Indy. After last year%26#39;s out-of-their-control move from Indy to Bloomington (due to scheduling/construction conflicts with Lucas), I know Indy is ready to roll out the red carpet for you guys. You can expect a GREAT experience this year.
And don%26#39;t worry about the typo - we Hoosiers are used to IndiaNOplace, IndiaNAPolis, and much worse. I%26#39;m confident you%26#39;ll find that Indianapolis has grown DYNAMICALLY over the past 25 years to be a stunningly great city for events such as the DCI Championships (much to do within easy walking distance of the core downtown area).
Have a great time!
The downtown Marriott would be the best bet. For convenience and ammenities. Don%26#39;t be fooled by the Courtyard downtown it is under major construction upgrades. The rate may be less but not worth the hassle. Enjoy all downtown has to offer. Great event every year. The restaurants get very busy for dinner. So make your decision early and try to make a reservation or head out early as possible.
Thanks for the great suggestions. We are really looking forward to the trip and so excited about the competition. It%26#39;s my son%26#39;s first year with the Cavaliers and I can%26#39;t wait to see the awesome performances.
Unfortunately, the downtown hotels are sold out of
2-bed rooms so we have to stay at least 7 miles out. What area would you suggest? South, East or North. I noticed that the Hotels in the East are less expensive which makes me a little worried about the area.
Any and all advice is appreciated.
Thanks
There are one or two hotels on the east side to consider - although they have few amenities near them. Of these, the Marriott would likely be the best (although haven%26#39;t even been there for a conference in three years). The advantage of the east side hotels is their relative close proximity to downtown and Lucas Stadium.
Otherwise, I%26#39;d strongly recommend staying north - better amenities than the south or west. Something in the Keystone Fashion Mall complex would be good, as there are many restaurants, pubs, shops, etc. nearby. For good solid hotels that are closer downtown, there are the major intersections along I-465 - which typically have good Holiday Inn Express or Courtyard by Marriot type hotels with relatively limited amenities - albeit in nicer surroundings than the east side hotels. In particular, I-465 and Michigan Rd. on the northwest side, I-69 and 86th St. on the northeast side, 86th St. and I-465 on the west side, and along the I-65 corridor just south of I-465 on the south side all have good hotels.
There are several nice hotels at the Southport road exit on south i 65. There are plenty of places for eats and drinks. It%26#39;s a quick 10-15 minute drive to downtown (after the rush hours after 9 a.m. after 6 p.m.) There are also a acouple new hotels on the southside at County Line Rd which is about two more miles farther south
Dave is right -- go north. There is a Marriott on the east side at I70 and about I465. I have been to meetings there but never stayed in a guest room. It is an older hotel but they have put some money into in recent years. There are really no truly dangerous parts of Indy for visitors in my opinion, but that said, the east side is not the garden spot of the city. There is also a Residence Inn downtown, if it is not sold out. The Marriott North is very nice but a bit pricey. Here%26#39;s a link to a few choices . . . Hope this helps.

I didn%26#39;t see Indyob%26#39;s recommendation for the southside. It%26#39;s closer to downtown than northside, but really don%26#39;t know what hotels are down there. It%26#39;s a nice, safe area too.
The marriott on the eastside is ok. It%26#39;s just off Shadeland ave. There isn%26#39;t much around there except some fast food and a Bob Evans. Go north on Shadeland to about 71st to find anything else (TD Alibi%26#39;s) From there to downtown is a quick 15 min drive, all interstate
