Indiana weekend vacation ideas?

My extended family enjoys a weekend away every year, and we are looking for a destination somewhere between NE Indiana and central IL. We want someplace we haven%26#39;t been to yet. Here%26#39;s where we%26#39;ve been: Indianapolis, South Bend, West Lafayette, %26amp; Chicago. This is a group of 30+, ranging from s to babies. Does not have to be a huge destination-we usually split up on Saturdays and go wherever there%26#39;s interest. Any ideas?!

Depending on what time of year you will be going, you might want to check out Turkey Run State Park or Wasatch Lake Resort. Both are outdoor orientated. Although it%26#39;s not technically half way, Nashville Indiana %26amp; Brown County State Park are wonderful, with lots of shopping %26amp; outdoor activities. Let us know the time of year %26amp; budget %26amp; we might have more ideas.

In Indiana, the Indiana Dunes in Chesterton, IN is a nice relaxing place to visit. It wouldn%26#39;t be worth it if you weren%26#39;t coming in the summer. The beaches are great and miles long. Very clean.

In Illinois, I would recommend Starved Rock, near Utica, IL. It is about 50 miles west of Joliet. There are hotels in the area with large indoor water parks. Starved Rock has beautiful nature trails. There are a variety of recreational activities to do along the Illinois River there.

Some of the things I mentioned in the other vacation thread might work for you too, depending on how far south you want to go.

I hope you all have a great time!

Kokomo, Indiana would be a good half-way point for your group. Kokomo offers many great museums and attractions, such as the Automotive Museum, Kokomo Opalescent Glass Company, Elwood Haynes Museum, Kokomo Art Center, Seiberling Mansion, IU Kokomo Art Gallery, Greentown Glass Museum, Kokomo Beach outdoor waterpark, antique shopping, nice parks, and great restaurants. The Grissom Air Museum is also nearby. To request information, visit www.visitkokomo.org or call the Kokomo Visitors Bureau at 800-837-0971.

Fort Wayne could be a great place to visit. The Ft. Wayne Childrens%26#39; Zoo is a great place for the kids, as with great shopping at Glenbrook Square, athletic events at Memorial Coliseum, and theaters like the Embassy downtown and museums. Science Central is also a great place for family. Ft. Wayne also has plenty of hotels to choose from as well.
