best sushi?

Thanks for the reply GabbyGambler. I am no help with this question. Not a fan a the Sushi. But lots of other recommendations for downtown places to eat.

I%26#39;m not a sushi person either, but my son and his wife very definitely are, they go to all of the Sushi places in town and this is by far the favorite of them and their friends.

Agree with Sakura (on Keystone at about 71st St. on the northside of Indy).

If you%26#39;re farther on the north side, the Kona Grill has a terrific sushi bar - it%26#39;s in Clay Terrace on the north side of Carmel, about a 10 minute drive north of I-465 on US 31. They also serve a very nice range of contemporary American fare, so the Kona Grill was always a great option for entertaining groups of friends, some of whom might not enjoy sushi.

I like H20 in Broad Ripple.

By far, my favorite sushi restaurant is Wasabi, which is at 82nd Street and Allisonville Road. The sushi is great and the service is much better than that of Sakura.

EyeMan: Gotta weigh in on this, as I am a sushi lover. There%26#39;s a bunch of sushi places in Indy. Haven%26#39;t eaten at all the sushi restaurants in Indy but have eaten at several. I agree Sakura is a really good place BUT . . . the same people who own Sakura own a nicer - in my opinion - place at around 86th and Ditch Road on the north side of town. Honestly, I think Sakura might have been an old gas station or something before it was a restaurant. Ocean World is in a strip mall, it is very nicely decored, clean, and comfortable and the sushi is awesome, just like at Sakura. I prefer Ocean World because it%26#39;s just a nicer place all around. Here%26#39;s their web site:

Now, one other thing you could do if you want to pig out is go to a place at Allisonville Rd and 82nd St called 8 China Buffet. Yes, China. But they also have an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet which is pretty darned good. I actually did a review on the place which you can read here on Trip Advisor. It%26#39;s cheap and you can gorge.

I agree, you can%26#39;t go wrong with Sakura or Ocean World.

Another (it%26#39;s a hidden gem) is I Love Sushi in Fishers.

I had scallops there that were sublime.

Shutterbug: Nice to know that. I%26#39;ll have to check it out.

Sakura and Ocean World? Seriously? I disagree. I have had some terrible fish at both of these places, although their prices can%26#39;t be beat. I used to get the Yokozuna sushi special at Sakura, which is like $28 for 28 pieces of nigiri and rolls. But much of the fish in their nigiri tasted flavorless (their flounder and snapper) or just plain old (their tuna and squid). In my opinion, the chefs know that most customers are using so much soy sauce and wasabi that they aren%26#39;t going to taste the fish, so they just throw it together with sloppy ingredients. BTW, I also felt the servers at Sakura and Ocean World were pretty uninterested in taking care of customers. (Maybe I%26#39;m a little too high maintenance though.)

I%26#39;d call myself a sushi snob, and Mikado or H20 have my vote for best sushi in Indy. Both are pricey.

When we talk about best ';sushi';, we should distinguish between sushi rolls and nigiri sushi. You can get pretty good sushi rolls at almost any sushi place in Indy, and Sakura and Ocean World have very good rolls. But if you want good nigiri, try Mikado or H20. Both of them are pretty expensive (ie, $6-8 per 2 pieces of nigiri), but the fish and rice are superb. I know Mikado uses air cargo to have fish flown in the from the coasts. And they know how to make proper sushi rice.
